I have worked with children as long as I can remember. As a teen, I was either volunteering or babysitting in my free time, so that I could be around kids. Nothing made me feel happier! My talent and experience helped me become a nanny for multiple families. One of these families had four kids, including twin infants. During my nanny years, I was taught infant care skills from the wonderful mothers that I assisted. One of my first jobs was to work with infants in a daycare. I learned to care for four babies at once! My husband and I soon began a family of our own and we were blessed with 5 children in 8 years. (I love babies so much!) I made it a priority to be a stay-home mom, so I operated an in-home daycare for 15 years. I cared for many infants and toddlers during this time. It was a joy to become a big part of their lives. For a couple of years, I worked as an Educational Assistant for elementary aged children in the Linn-Mar Schools. I loved supporting children in their success and happiness at school. In the summer of 2017, I fell in love with a set of sweet, twin baby girls. Their exhausted mother needed help caring for them. At 2 months old, they were not sleeping much during the day or night and weren't eating well. I worked with them for a few days to change their routine and they slept through the night that same week and grew noticeably healthier! I was extremely happy and excited about my success with them! This is when I decided that I wanted to become a sleep consultant to help parents establish great sleep habits and healthy routines for their babies. It only took a couple of months to prepare and open my new business. Now I am living my dream! I am anxious to make the world a happier place, one sweet baby at a time.
When my first child was a newborn, I was told to follow his lead with feeding. He was underweight and unhealthy because he slept too long during the day, and didn't eat enough. He didn't sleep much at night. It was stressful! My husband and I were always tired and run down. Our son was fairly happy, but he had a lot of big meltdowns. I was disappointed in my parenting skills and wished I knew how to do things better. We loved and adored our child, but we felt like we only "survived" that first year. Then I found out I was pregnant with my 2nd child. A friend of mine found out how worried I was about more sleepless nights and gave me some helpful advice. I began to research what the experts taught and applied my newfound knowledge. Baby #2 slept through the night at 8 weeks old for 8 hours and by 10 weeks old, she was sleeping for 12 hours! I continued to build the knowledge and skills I had, as I researched and tried various techniques. This preparation helped my next three children sleep through the night in the same pattern. They were happy, healthy, easygoing and predictable babies, because of their great sleep habits and consistent routine.
When I provided daycare for 15 years, I helped many infants sleep through the night. I worked with diverse family backgrounds, parenting styles, personalities and challenges. One of these "opportunities" came when I was caring for my first set of full-time twins. I started providing child-care for them at 7 months old. When they followed the Sweet Slumber program for 4-5 days, they slept through the night for 8 uninterrupted hours. Their parents were overjoyed! They were excited to have good nappers, too. You can read about their success story on the "Testimonials" tab. It is a wonderful feeling to have blessed so many parents and their babies! My experience, creativity and skills will bring what YOU are hoping for, too: a positive experience and a sleeping child. You and your little one have so much dreaming to do!
